What is a F1 labradoodle? What's a F1b labradoodle? F2, F2b, F3, what's all these numbers and letters you ask? Those that are new to the breed are unsure what these terms mean. It's a good idea to know what these terms mean when looking for a labradoodle. So we'll try to lay it out here for you.
- What are labradoodles?
- Labradoodles are bred to have characteristics and qualities of both Labrador Retriever and standard poodles. The characteristics most sought after from Labs are their gentle and loving termperament, along with their hard working nature. They have a desire to please, which makes them easy to love and easy to train. Poodles, which are also loving & hard working, give the breed a hypoallergenic characteristic due to their non-shedding coats, which is hair as opposed to fur. Labradoodles, having qualities from both parent breeds, make excellent pets because of their intelligent & social nature.
- What's a F1 labradoodle -
- This is a first generation labradoodle. They are 50% labrador retriever and 50% poodle. F1 hybrids are the most vigorous health wise. Their coats can vary. Although, they still will shed, it's much less than a pure Labrador Retriever.
- What's a F1b?
- These labradoodles are a second generation puppy. They are the offspring of a F1 (50/50) which has been bred back with a Standard Poodle to produce a 75/25 poodle/lab mix. Their coats can tend to be more wavy/curly than the F1 and these tend to be very low shedding MOST of the time. These are more allergy-friendly than the first generation.
- What's a F2?
These are also 2nd generation, where both parents are a labradoodle (usually both F1's). The puppy is a mix of 50/50 and can vary in the poodle/labrador mix and characteristics
- What's a F2b?
These are the offspring of a F1 and a F1b which equals the mix of 65%poodle and 35%lab
- Are labradoodles hypoallergenic?
Due to the nature of their coat, no dog is TRULY non-allergenic. However, poodles have a more hair-like quality to their coat (less fur-like) and shed little, which puts them in the category of a 'non-shedding' dog. A labradoodle has a coat that is poodle-like and sheds less than most breeds thus making them a MORE hypoallergenic breed.
- What type of puppies does McLabPups have?
Currently we breed puppies that are F1 and F1b. Our dams are a chocolate labrador retriever which is bred with a standard poodle, making offspring a F1, 50% lab 50% poodle. And we have a F1 labradoodle that is bred with a pure standard poodle making the offspring F1b's, 75% poodle, 25% lab.
- What is the health status of the puppies?
To the best of our knowledge, our puppies are healthy and will be when you receive them into your family. Both the dam and the sire are, and have been healthy with no known congenital defects. The puppies will be checked by our family veterinarian and will have been found health, free of congenital defects as well as environmental complications. Our puppies have been socialized since birth by both human intereaction as well as interaction with other dogs. They are comfortable with human and dog interaction. At the time of delivery to your home, they will be healthy, fit, happy and ready to be loved by you and your family, even if you have young children or other pets. They also will have dew claws removed and their first puppy shot.
- Are your dogs and puppies inside your home?
Our labradoodles are raised in a friendly outdoor environment where they have free range of a large area and can be outdoors to enjoy a sunny day or choose to be inside the barn. The puppies learn to use a doggie door to relieve themselves in the out of doors. We love to be outside and are with our labradoodles daily playing with them.
- Do you own the sire?
We use a local reputable breeder for the sires, they are not on our premises.
